The American Medical Association (AMA) maintains the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code set (copyrighted by the AMA) through the CPT Editorial Panel. New editions are released in October. The current version is the CPT 2020. CPT coding identifies medical, surgical, radiology, laboratory, management, and diagnostic services to health-care providers and professionals, coders, accredited organizations, and payers for administrative, financial, and reporting institutions. The CPT codes are used by insurers to determine the reimbursement a practitioner will receive for services rendered.
